President Bola Tinubu had nominated Omokri in November 2025 alongside 68 others, together with former Aviation Minister, Femi Fani-Kayode and former Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, chairman, Professor Mahmood Yakubu.
The Senate confirmed the nominees in December 2025, whereas the President authorized the posting of 65 ambassadors-designate on March 6, 2026, with Omokri assigned to Mexico City.
