Former Resident Electoral Commissioner of the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, Mike Igini, has described INEC because the most innovative public establishment in Nigeria, but warned that sabotage and corruption are destroying the fee.
Igini made this assertion on Channels Television’s ‘Sunday Politics’.
He stated the problem going through INEC shouldn’t be lack of concepts but sabotage and corruption from inside and with out.
“INEC is the most innovative public establishment in Nigeria, but the problem is sabotage and corruption. Sabotage from inside and with out,” he stated.
The former INEC National Commissioner defined that INEC has launched a number of improvements like BVAS, IReV, Form EC60E to make elections clear, but some political actors and even officers throughout the system work to sabotage the method.
He lamented that politicians have perfected the act of infiltrating INEC’s advert-hoc employees recruitment, particularly by means of the NYSC record, to rig elections.
Igini warned that if Nigeria doesn’t repair its politics and shield INEC’s improvements from sabotage, the 2027 basic election will likely be judged harshly by Nigerians.
He insisted that INEC have to be shielded from each inner saboteurs and exterior corrupt politicians who wish to finish democracy in Nigeria.
