Several residents, together with girls and youngsters, have been killed when gunmen attacked Binnari city in Karim-Lamido Local Government Area of Taraba State on Friday night.
Daily Trust learnt that the gunmen, using on motorcycles, invaded the city at about 3pm and opened fireplace in numerous instructions, killing many residents and wounding a number of others.
A group chief within the space, Alhaji Tanko Andami, who spoke with Daily Trust by phone, stated the attackers invaded the city on Friday, which is a market day, and commenced taking pictures at residents.
He stated the gunmen arrived on about 50 motorcycles, with two males on every motorbike.
Andami stated the attackers, after killing residents, looted outlets and carted away money, foodstuffs and different provisions.
He added that the gunmen additionally took away new motorcycles whose house owners deserted them whereas fleeing the assault.
According to him, the attackers have been among the many bandits who had taken management of a number of communities within the space and have been working across the Plateau and Bauchi borders with Taraba State.
“We are going to conduct the burial of these killed within the assault this morning.
“We appeal to the Taraba State governor and security agencies to pay special attention to Karim-Lamido Local Government Area because many communities are under the control of bandits who operate around the Plateau and Bauchi border areas with Taraba State,” he stated.
Another resident of Binnari, Yahuza Binnari, who fled to a close-by village, stated the attackers invaded the city shortly after Friday prayers, when the market was crowded.
He stated the attackers blocked the entrances to the city, whereas others moved into the market, which was busy as a result of it was a market day, and began taking pictures in numerous instructions.
“There was whole confusion within the city as folks ran in numerous instructions.
“When the attackers left, we counted greater than 18 lifeless our bodies, whereas a number of others have been nonetheless lacking.
“We are going to conduct the burial of those killed and search for the missing people,” he stated.
When contacted, the Police Public Relations Officer of the Taraba State Command, ASP Victor Mshelizah, confirmed the assault.
