Students of Federal Government College (FGC), Kaduna, who have interaction in bullying risk indefinite suspension as the varsity administration and Parents-Teachers Association (PTA) intensify efforts to remove the menace.
The PTA Chairman, Mr Ibrahim Abdul, disclosed this whereas fielding questions from newsmen throughout the school’s twenty ninth Speech and Prize-Giving Day.
He stated the varsity had adopted a zero-tolerance stance towards bullying by means of collaboration between dad and mom, the PTA and administration.
Abdul, an alumnus of the faculty who graduated in Nineties, stated common monitoring by PTA officers and strict disciplinary measures had considerably decreased instances of bullying.
“Bullying is gradually becoming a thing of the past as far as Federal Government College is concerned because we have put all hands on deck. The PTA, the parents and the school management are all working together,” he stated.
According to him, members of the PTA make unscheduled visits to the varsity at completely different hours to watch college students’ welfare and guarantee self-discipline is maintained.
“Sometimes, when I come around, I visit the school in the evening. Sometimes I come around at night, and sometimes I come very early in the morning to see what is happening,” he stated.
He warned that any pupil caught bullying others would face stiff sanctions.
“The senior ones know that when you get caught bullying, you’re going on indefinite suspension.
“Activities like this will be held without you. So, if you want to participate in activities like this and remain a proud product of this school, then you have to put bullying behind you and move forward for the progress of your life and your future,” Abdul stated.
He urged PTAs throughout the nation to strengthen collaboration with college authorities to curb bullying of their respective colleges.
“The PTA should also get very involved in other schools. Every school has its own PTA, and they should work very closely with the school management. Once they do that, the working relationship should be very cordial so that they can work together to stop the menace of bullying,” he stated.
Abdul expressed optimism that sustained efforts by stakeholders would finally eradicate bullying in colleges.
“Bullying could be very dangerous, and I imagine we’re steadily overcoming it. It just isn’t like what you skilled, or what I skilled, or what others skilled after we had been in class.
“Things are gradually improving and, by the grace of God, in the next few years, bullying will become a thing of the past,” he added.
