The Bank of Industry (BOI) and the Agence Française de Développement (AFD) have signed a $30 million credit score facility to help Nigeria’s artistic and cultural industries.
The settlement was signed in Abuja by the Managing Director of BOI, Dr. Olasupo Olusi, and the Chief Executive Officer of AFD Group, Christophe Lecourtier.
Speaking on the ceremony, Olusi described the deal as ”a serious milestone that builds on the longstanding partnership between each establishments and expands collaboration right into a vital development sector of the Nigerian economic system.”
According to him, the artistic sector, which spans music, movie, style, design and gaming, holds one of many largest alternatives for job creation, youth inclusion and financial diversification.
“This agreement builds on a very longstanding partnership between AFD and BOI. The creative sector represents one of the biggest growth opportunities for the Nigerian economy, as it has the biggest capacity to absorb young people and create jobs,” he mentioned
Olusi mentioned the ability aligned with President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda and the federal authorities’s ambition to develop Nigeria’s economic system to a $1 trillion economic system, noting that entry to reasonably priced finance stays a serious constraint for creatives.
He added that the ability would prioritize women-led and youth-led companies and segments of the economic system that had been usually excluded from financing.
In his remarks, AFD CEO Christophe Lecourtier mentioned BOI remained AFD’s main improvement banking associate in Nigeria and its largest associate by way of non-sovereign loans.
He recalled the primary partnership, a credit score line of over 100 million euros targeted on local weather points below the Transforming Financial Systems for Climate (TFSC) programme, and mentioned each establishments shared strategic priorities.
